Helper Springs or Air Bags to Accommodate Skid Weight?

Hey guys, I am getting ready for the delivery of my new skid unit. This will be my first truck with a skid and I wanted to know if any of you guys have added helper springs or air bags on the truck to help support the weight of the skid and help with the additional water weight. The truck is a 2009 F250 Super Duty and I would be interested in hearing what you guys have used.

Eric I think the air bags would be the best bet. I may be adding some to my f250. I have a guy that will install them for a total price with parts for 475.00.

Thanks, Mike. Do you know what system you will use.

I am not sure the parts and everything are sold at the shop. All I know is that you have to inflate them with an air compressor manually. The automatic system was like 1500 and me no spend that on that type of item.

I run air bags on my f250, more for the plows I run in the winter but they do also help when my system is full in the cleaning season as well. I would go with the air bags instead of helper springs, much better ride.

Eric
I had a set of Super Springs put on my truck and it made a big difference in the ride and when carrying 1100 lb SH plus every thing else.

Hi Eric,
I’m running a Ford 350 7.3 dual. I changed the springs for plowing. But I did have a F150 with Timbren on them they worked really good. Check them out. I have the same truck has Mario.
I have air lift on my truck they work well are easy to install on your own dime.you can adjust the psi so you can tailor the ride to fit your payload.

Mechanic said that they are a Firestone brand. They are rubber grommets and some sort of bag that go on the springs to act as a cushion. I just didn't want to deal with filing anything. Just one more thing I could forget to do or not do.

Autokit is about $300 more from firestone
You can get Timbrens instead. Basically giant bumpstops

How is the ride with these? I was concerned with carrying water all the time, that the Timbrens will have constant contact with the axle tube and make the ride really still. I was considering the air bags because I didn't want too stiff of a ride.

They have a little bit of a fusion but nothing like airbags. I wouldn't do upgraded springs. Most people use timbrens on the front for snow plows.
Some people use timbrens on the rear for fifth wheels and trucks that are always loaded down. Service bodies etc
I'm doing the auto bags on my dodge this spring

overloads if you leave the skid in all the time and bags if you don't. I'm a gearhead and have done a a bunch of these for friends . you cando it yourself in about 2hours either way in your driveway and save the money for hand tools, chems, or the beer for your buddy to help!
